The climate action plans we finance

Danish municipalities and regions have strong ambitions for the sustainable transition of Danish local communities. All our municipalities have developed climate action plans to deliver on the Paris Agreement. Their efforts play an important role in reaching the climate goals on a national level. At KommuneKredit, we are pleased to offer finance options for their ambitious projects.

Local contributions to Denmark's climate goals

Informed by the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the 2020 Danish Climate Act contains a binding national objective to reduce carbon emissions by 70 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. At the local level, our members and associated entities, such as utilities within district heating and water and wastewater management, make substantial investments in the green transition that supports this target.

The Climate Alliance

Established in 2023, the Climate Alliance partnership guides all Danish municipalities and regional authorities in implementing their climate action plans by 2027. These plans aim to reduce emissions and enhance climate resilience in line with the Paris Agreement, ultimately striving for net-zero emissions by 2050 and supporting the Danish Government's 70 per cent reduction target. A significant part of our members' climate action plans involves investments eligible for KommuneKredit financing.
